Long are the lines of Faustus with their noses tucked away in books; they were scholars and scribes, mages and emissaries, vassals to a house of Niben battlemages that encompassed the old aristrocrasy. Ilaria was born to such a line, the second eldest after her brother. The second eldest was supposed to be the luckiest. Her brother would inherit the Faustus name and their house, and Ilaria would be sent to train under their liege lords with the potential to become a Battlemage and train at the Battlespire of legend.

Unfortunately, the girl was born sickly, with a misshapen left leg that kept her away from combat of any kind and a weakened fortitude that discouraged her from dreams of being a Battlemage like her Nibenese liege lords. None of that would hold as Ilaria grew older, of course. Weakness became a strength wielded with perception, and though meek in appearance and still crippled, the Niben holds her own with dry wit and a love for verbal shakedowns. There's always a desperate need for Ilaria to seem bigger than she is, and it's clear where it comes from. Unfortunately, it results in punching down and being cruel more often than not.Her studies have made her worldly in the bookish sense, but there's no doubt Ilaria still holds the memory of a lavish upbringing. Plush carpets and silk gowns were commonplace and her ignorance tends to show at the worst times. Unfortunate circumstances have left wealth but a wisp on her tongue, something she often still bears the poor taste of.

Ilaria is quite clearly a woman of Imperial stock. Darkened skin, dark hair, and elaborate markings of ink betray her as such, if her Ancestor Silk robes and embellished jewelry didn't, first. Her hair is kept short, just brushing against her shoulders, while bright amber eyes sit below dark, thick eyebrows. Her build is lithe, just barely lined with muscle and slight curves. The most notable part of her appearance is her left leg, the bones beneath her knee to her foot twisted and unnatural. It leaves her walking with a heavy limp, and she's altered her garb to have her trousers fit around the lame leg while she walks with an ornately carved bronze cane to make up for it.

Common

"Faustus is an old name. It's apparently survived since the later days of the First Era, and while little of its history is known, the recent years of the Second Era have been good to them. With records lost in the Imperial City to the Planemeld and the Banners, Faustus and their liege lords, Lucilia, have made good business in remaking what was lost."
REPORT: Inventory of the Niben Families, Gwylim Press
"What, Chiera has two dead kids now? I thought it was only the one-- Ah... 'Dead to her', important difference to make, dumbass. Ilaria, at that! Girl was always reaching too far over her head. Whatever she did, I'm sure it was bound to happen."
CORRESPONDENCE: A letter to a friend
"Conspiracy is alight in the city of Leyawiin! Civil unrest comes from a recent leak of noble secrets, much of which involves the misuse of specialty funds. Matteo Faustus, accountant of House Lucilia, claims he had no part in it. Wary eyes turn to his daughter, similarly in charge of the books as her father prepared to take his leave."

Rare

"The attackers came at night-- Four of them, of varying types. We busted in just as the last two had Ilaria down on the ground. The others were on the ground, bodies hollowed, and their eyes... They were like empty glass. The girl said she didn't know how they were felled, but from the weapons they carried they looked to be mages. We assumed whatever magic they tried reacted poorly with the wards set in place."
GUARD REPORT: On the attack in the estate

↠ Gwylim Graduate - Long before the Three Banners War raged across Cyrodiil, scholarly pursuits were left to flourish across both the Arcane University and the University of Gwylim. Ilaria was a well known name within Gwylim, most notably within the Gwylim Press for her essays on Celestial convergences and Nedic society.↠ Emissary and Scribe - The name 'Faustus' carries with it a history of servitude within the Nibenay Valley; they were a subset of nobles beneath the noble House Lucilia, the Lord and Lady sending their children to act as wards, scribes, and scholars for their liege. Ilaria acted as both a diplomatic emissary and scribe for the house before her time at the University of Gwylim, and has maintained such skills for record keeping (and record erasing).↠ A Stain on the Name - Recent times have been hard on Ilaria. After using her position as record keeper and scribe for nefarious reasons that may or may not align with 'tax evasion' and 'government fraud', the Niben finds herself disowned and exiled from her lands. Though she's found a job with an old friend, the rest of the world is still incredibly new and frightful.

We had some good times together, didn't we? I was too much like you. Too small, so I tried to be big. I reached in the ways you taught me to, and when it all came crashing down, you left me to be crushed in the rubble.

Chiera Faustus

Berich was always your favorite. I mean, I understand it. He was the oldest so you got to teach him what it meant to be a Lord. It didn't mean you had to pretend I didn't exist.

Berich Faustus

brother

It's not your fault mother thought you were the second coming of Reman himself, Berich. I'm sure you're there doing great things now, and when the time comes for you to take the reins, you know I'll be your biggest fan. Just... From over here. I hope you still think of me.

Isobel Faustus

sister †

Little Izzy. If I could take up arms against the plague that took you, I would in an instant. You were good. Too young to be gone so soon.
